The 2024 Juno Awards are around the corner, and to celebrate, we're presenting the Juno Sessions: a series in which past and present Juno Award nominees and winners cover songs by musicians who've been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

For the third Juno Session, alt-rockers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay Goldstein of July Talk performed a stripped-back rendition of Alanis Morissette's "Hand in My Pocket."

The three-time Juno winners reveal that they were initially intimidated to put their spin on the iconic song: "When we were asked to do this, I was like, 'Hell no,'" laughed Dreimanis.

"I [thought], there's no way we can make something cool out of a song that's so well-known, and people have their own relationships with it."

The pair performed an intimate duet, resulting in a sentimental, piano-driven take on the 1995 hit.

Goldstein explained that when Morissette released the track, she became "an example of a young woman who is taking all the power back," who also "broke open the world for so many young people."

Morissette, a 14-time Juno winner, was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2015. "Hand in My Pocket" was one of numerous successful singles from Jagged Little Pill. The album won five Grammy Awards, inspired a musical and sold millions of albums worldwide.
